Forum: etree Subject: unable to upload -- Server (IO) Error

While trying to upload currently, I'm getting "Server (IO) Error" for every file in the HTTP uploader, which is a new problem since yesterday......

Intermittently I'm also getting "Upload Error: Upload failed is_uploaded_file test."

None of my files are uploading

I havent been able to upload to LMA for sometime.

Flash uploader shows impossibly fast downloads for my slow DSL connection - for the first dozen or so tracks and then redboxes to the I/O error.

I've tried a few computers.

Firefox completely crashes and requires manual stopping to start another browser instance.

IE gets stuck after the first impossibly fast upload and just sits there.

I've had the issue where one file uploads, then it just sits there. I close the IE window, open a new IE window. When I click the share button, the previously uploaded file is there, then I select all the other files and off we go.

BTW, I'm using IE6, don't know if that makes a difference.

please give me the identifier...
and for now, try a full shift-refresh of the edit.php page
and then hit the "revert item ..." button at the bottom
to see if either/both make things better.

meanwhile, i'll watch your attempts best i can to see what i can find.

sound good?

Well, it was still erroring on every other file, so I just kept reselecting each individual file until they all completed. Luckily it was a 16 bit recording so the files weren't too big.

So, I'm done at the moment. I will have more to upload tomorrow though.

Here's the identifier of my upload:
moe2010-01-26.tlm170.flac16

Thanks for keeping an eye on this.

Just thought of one thing....note that I'm on a firewalled environment.....do you think that makes any difference?

well, the firewall should not matter *now* -- now that we no longer
use alternative ports 8080 (or 81) as we did at times until mid-week.

i was thinking maybe your browser had some cached code that
was somehow trying to use port 8080 somewhere, or something like that.

hopefully the next time u need to edit an item there will not be such problems.
but i am again trying to fixup the http uploader (after a long delay due to OS upgrading and http server upgrading)
so i will try to investigate as you reply w/ issues to this forum thread 8-)

OK it turns out I *am* ready to upload something. I did CTRL+F5 on the upload page (firefox 3.6 on a PC) to insure a fresh (noncached) read of the page, and I'm currently (i.e. right now) getting the error with

hi scott,
rats nothing promising turning up in the logs.

and these are showing up like:
"Server (IO) Error"
again?
you are using the flash uploader, right? (it shows progress while uploading)

eventual attempts over and over again worked?
and this was all for upload failures for a new item, right?
(or were these failures with edit.php?)

thanks in advance for all the info and your continuing patience!

Yes on all accounts -- flash loader w/progress, Server IO error, every other file gave me this error after the previous file worked successfully. The "every other file" error continued but was able to get them all up as long as I kept queuing them up with other files between!

I've been getting the same thing since yesterday as well

Firefox 3.1.0.17

Every other file is a server (IO) error

I also managed to get a complete up yesterday by reloading the failed files. Every time I'd reload the files, every other file I reloaded would fail again. Long process to get them all there :P

screen shot attached if that helps.

Thanks.

Yep, the exact error I've been seeing, and the exact semi-painful solution I used, more than doubling my upload time.

Error reporting is one thing I know how to do well. I'm a development manager (and ex-developer) myself, so I know what's important to file in a bug ticket. ;-)

Forum: etree Subject: Re: unable to upload -- Server (IO) Error

On the advice of Greenone (Dave) I'm going to add my voice to this Server(IO)Error problem. I've been trying in vane to up a show since 1-23 or so.

http://www.archive.org/details/ch2005-09-02.SPC3.flac16

I've had success in the past using Fire Fox so I'm hoping it's not a browser related issue. (IE7 attempts are thwarted due to some apparent setup issues w/Flash and ActivX that I can't sort out, try as I might.)

I've been able to upload the ascii based files but no flacs. I eventually went ahead and created the item with just those files in hopes that having some fixed location for the files to target would help. Seems not.

It's been a couple days since my last attempt so the news that "the system has been fixed" was welcome news... till I tried it again just now. I can get 3 or 4 flacs to upload (out of 7) then the rest error out. Attempts to get the update to complete seems to be an endless process. (Unless I misunderstood Dave's quoting of Tracy's explanation, I was thinking once the "completed" state was reached then the upload wouldn't be a long slog waiting for the "Loading" state to complete.) I killed that window (trying to upload the few files that did complete) and tried to upload just one small 7 mg flac... Still no go.

I had asked Dave to simply delete the item so that I could start over but this hasn't been done yet. Perhaps there's still hope for it.

One other note. I did get an email from LMA support indicating that there was an MD5 error since all the files in my MD5 seem not to have been uploaded. That worked! ;o)

I hope this can be sorted out. Good luck.

Yeah you're definitely seeing the same problem as I am. Every *other* file works for me, so track 1 might work, track 2 won't, track 3 will, track 4 won't, etc.

So there is a temporary workaround. Note the ones that fail, and keep reuploading (press the "Share" button again and re-add the failed tracks) them until they all get there. Realize that every other track will not upload so pick your order wisely (i.e. you might want to choose short files for the ones that will fail).

Yeah on retrying, it worked for me for every other track -- odd tracks uploaded, evens didn't. Then I retried and retried each track until finally all of them took.

Made my upload take 2-3 times as long as usual....

Any help from the admins???

hi scott,

should be fixed now.
sorry about that -- we did some massive upgrades and streamlines with
our http servers and had quite a lot of crossfire/fallout today and yesterday
w/ various servers not restarting properly, some config issues, etc.

sorry for the inconvenience!
as an olive branch, i've updated the per-file-limit from 8G to 10G 8-)

Tracey...

I have been getting this error since Saturday, 03/08/14. I have attempted to upload different files several times over the weekend, without success. I have also tried the process from a different computer and feed with the same results.

Any help or input that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to reload flac files for http://ia340920.us.archive.org/edit.php?identifier=WPA_1-6-10_Sellersville_Theatre

I had screwed up the original files, deleted them and now this is the third day I've been trying to upload the corrected files. I was getting server I/O errors, now I just get failed upload, unknown error. It took the ffp & info files, just won't take the flacs.

Thanks,
